Pavilion at Port Orange

Looks like our little town is moving up in the world. Construction is going strong on the new Pavilion at Port Orange. The part I'm most excited about is the 14 screen Hollywood Theatres. We have to drive about 30 minutes to go to the newest theatre in town and it's over on beachside in the heart of the tourist district. Needless to say, I think it's been over 1 year since DH and I have gone out to see a movie here in town.

I love the look of the new Pavilion, reminds me of the outdoor malls in California and even Jacksonville/St. Augustine area. Looks like they've edited the list of shoppes and restaurants coming to the new Pavilion at Port Orange in the fall (it's the new shopping center on Williamson near the Taylor Rd. Publix here in PO).
Circuit City and Barnes and Noble are off the rendering now. Although this article from just last month show Barnes and Noble signed a lease for the spot. The article also says the store will open March of 2009 which I see as impossible. They also say they'll have Starbucks which will be welcome since the only other Starbucks is in our Target.
Belk fashion department store will be the big anchor store, along with junior anchors Michaels, Marshalls and Home goods. A national pet store is also in the plan, 1 place says Petsmart , another shows Petco .

Now also on the list:
Shops: ATT store, David's Bridal, GNC, Lee Nail Spa, Rack Room Shoes, Sunglass World, and Visionworks

And food: Alfredo's Restaurant, Cold Stone Creamery, Olive Garden, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Red Brick Pizza , Red Robin Gourmet Burgers,
From their press release The Pavilion at Port Orange will offer customers a unique shopping experience with Main Street style architecture, two-story themed buildings and extensive landscaping in an open-air pedestrian-friendly environment. A focal point of the development will be a seven-acre lake surrounded by numerous upscale sit-down restaurants overlooking the water. The center will also feature a community pavilion along the lake that will serve as a gathering place for residents and tourists and a covered children’s soft play area. Curbside parking will provide customers with easy and convenient access to the shops.

  9. Petco is the only place I've shopped at so far and they had a sign out next to the register noting the 1% tax. I'm ok with paying that, but on the receipt, it was noted as a line item and then state tax 6.5% was applied to the whole amount. I don't think they should tax the tax. I called Petco corporate and they said to ask the store about it. I'll check with them this weekend. Thanks for your comment.

Its not a tax, its a fee. Public infrastructure Fee (PIF). It is a fee, charged on all items, even services (which are not charged a tax). I am an employee of one of the Pavilion stores. This fee is for the City widening the roads, etc. The City of Port Orange would not widen them, and the landlord (CBL) had an agreement with the city. They borrowed a certain amount of money from the City and now they have to repay it. Belk's has its fee rolled into its pricing (its prices are higher than other Belk's that dont have this fee). They are marketing it as "they are paying for it for the customer". In reality the customers are still paying, and then some when they shop Belks. Complain to the City and landlord. This fee also goes to help with other parts of the city as well. It is a justifiable fee. 1% on $100 is $1.00, whats the big deal?

  11. I just read about this in the paper recently. Thanks for the additional clarification. I like that Belks incorporated the fee into their prices, I think 5 Guys did the same thing, but am not entirely sure. I think the article also said the PIF is expected to be in place for about 30 years.
I love the location and will gladly pay the additional 1% PIF to shop here in Port Orange.
    Thank you for your comment.
